❄️LIANWENEE, TAS SMASHES IT’S JULY MINIMUM TEMPRATURE RECORD AND STATE RECORD FOR JULY❄️

Lianwenee, TAS breaks Minimum Temperature for 2nd straight night. Can it go for the all time state record?

A building/blocking high pressure system the last few days that has been anchored/slow moving over the Southern Ocean near Tasmania on the west side has produced calm and stable conditions the last few nights and has left a decent chill and the lowest minimum temps to date this year across much of Australia’s Southern and Central parts, while in some places have seen some new records set.

However this was true especially in one place, where it was EXTREMELY COLD the past two mornings. That was in Tasmania’s Central Plateau and Lakes region in a very tiny town of Lianwenee 1,057m ASL (Above Sea Level). Where temperatures on Wednesday Morning dropped to -12.9c and then this morning dropped to -13.5c just before 5am. This once OFFICIALLY (currently UNOFFICIAL, until quality checks on the data are done and it upload on the Bureau’s data base for Daily Extreme Records) would set a NEW STATE record for the lowest minimum temperature since records began in Tasmania for the month of July. With the previous record being -12.5c at Butlers Gorge (July 1st, 1983). But the real question is can it go further and beat it’s all time record since records began in 2001 of -14.2c on August 7th, 2020?

The answer, it is POSSIBLE, but NOT likely this week, as the high pressure slowly centers back to the west, with ridging remaining in place providing calm winds and conditions for another night, before the high starts to move east over the state by the weekend and east of the state early next week. This will see winds remain calm but turn northly and more milder. However, if this recent run is anything to go by, then anything may be possible before winter ends. Noting the coldest minimum temp ever recorded at Lianwenee, TAS occurred in August and we have only just started July.

This is also normal conditions for this time of year and this record has occurred only days prior to the prior record which was set on July 9th, 2013.

NOTE: Yellow highlighted cells=Probable monthly record been broken and the small number in the cell is the years since records began at the station.
